1) A time I made an unlikely connection was when I met my friend Kamari. I met her in Girl Scouts when I was in third grade and she was in first. Although we were two years apart she always seemed to be around the girls older than her. By the time we were in the same group, which is the cadets (6-8th grade) we were basically like sisters. I never would’ve thought I could become so close to someone two years younger than me, that could act older than her age at that. If she were to ask a stranger how old they thought she was, I guarantee they would  get the answer wrong. This corresponds to Seligsons article due to the fact that he made unlikely connections with strangers and eventually became really great friends with them.

2) A movie that describes an unlikely connection would be the movie Twilight. In the movie, the two stars Bella and Edward fall in love. Bella is a sixteen year-old girl who just moved into the small town and ends up bumping into a Vampire. Being that vampires are seen as scary, vicious creatures humans tend to be in fear of them. When Bella first puts the pieces together and lets him know that she knows, it basically lifts a big weight off of their relationship because he is no longer keeping the secret. As time goes on their relationship becomes stronger even after all the countless times he put her in danger. This shows an unlikely connection between them because she still stayed and loved him even after all they’ve been through together and all of the near death experiences.

3) The irony of millennials  in society today would be the works of the new president. The things he is changing are affecting the social lives of people, especially with the travel ban put on some country’s. For example, individuals in Iraq who are trying to flee from ISIS in fear of their safety can’t leave and can possibly be killed due to this ban. Also, those trying to flee from unsafe country’s can go to the most extreme extent like smuggling themslef on a boat just  to get away. But there are high risks of danger being that the boat could sink and people can die. The next four years for America will most likely be hell on Earth, but thats just the irony of it.

4) If I were to invite 5 people to a dinner party the first would have to be Beyonce. I would ask her about her music and the process she  goes through when making her music videos. Because I’m very intrigued in her person life due to the fact that nobody really knows

Storytellers

Storytellers play a significant role in society. Through their stories they share wondrous ideas and information that we can learn from and pass on. Novelists have also contributed by writing in newspapers to create awareness about what’s going on in the world around us. By doing this, they give a broader view and many different perspectives on different topics. The story also addresses problems that include gender inequality, the superiority of men to women, and the many different struggles women go through while living in Iran. Author Azar Nafisi after writing the memoir “Reading Lolita in Tehran” shows that she believes in the equality between men and women and disagrees with many of the restrictions women have while living there.

From the perspective of Nafisi, a story is told about a girl named Sanaz. Throughout the passage, Sanaz goes through many obstacles that she has to face in her daily life. She can’t show her hair, she can’t wear nail polish, she can’t wear makeup, she can’t walk in public without a male spouse or relative, she has to wear a veil, and she has to sit in the back of the bus. The only good thing she has going for her is the day she’ll finally get to meet her boyfriend in Turkey. By taking in this information, you can infer that life in Iran isn’t all that easy. Although storytelling is a great way to voice many problems in society, poets and songwriters can get messages out through their work also.

For example, Drake who is an artist and songwriter has many messages behind the lyrics in most of his songs.  They do this by talking down on him. Drake talks about how he has to keep a good mindset. But there are always going to be haters out there who don’t want him to succeed in his career which is making music and money. He explains in the song that people are trying to drain him of his energy by talking down on him; energy meaning his songs and his ambition to keep making music. A song like this can be motivational to others who are in the same boat.

“Virtual Show and Tell”

In Blaeser’s essay she talked about how your culture effects your identity and what makes your image. “My memories entangle themselves oddly among the roots of several cultures.” This means that while growing up coming from several different cultures you learn the traditions from each and they can sometimes get mixed up and tangled within our minds. For example, both of my parents are from different backgrounds. While my mom is Jamaican my dad is Trinidadian and he is also Muslim. Growing up with a parent that eats pork while the other one forbids it is very challenging. My mom would sneak and eat things like pepperoni, bacon, italian sausages; while my dad would lie to my sister and I and say if we ate it, it could kill us. Being that we snuck and ate it too, we already knew that was a lie.
